These sessions that Amy Winhouse recorded have a rawness to them that is mesmerising. The version of Valerie that she recorded at the same time is great - but very casual. This song, however, sees her in the zone - casually trying to shrug off the emotion of the lyrics - all the while her body leaping and shoulders lifting, voice breaking, arms akimbo. It's clearly a deeply personal song for her - and also for us all.
