Bridal Train

I love the way that a story can make such a difference to the way that we listen to music. The other night I heard the back story for this song by The Waifs ... it is based on the real life experience of the girls from the band. Just after WWII, the grandmother of the girls was given 12 hours notice to be ready for a trip to the USA to meet up with her husband who had returned from the war. The song tries to capture a sense of what must have been a daunting trip across the centre of the country -- from Perth to Sydney by train. Fragile but lovely.
